My mother gasped, dropping her napkin. "Sarah, what dramatization is this? Claire told us Lily had a slight cold and was happily playing with the babysitter at the villa!"
"Did she?" I reached into my trench coat pocket. "Let's ask the security cameras from Downtown Plaza Parking P4. And let's ask this recorder that was in Lily's jacket pocket."
Claire's fingers tightened around the stem of her wine glass until her knuckles turned ivory. "Sarah, you're making a scene in public! Don't do this here. Let's talk outside like rational adults."
"No, Claire. You took my child at 2:00 PM promising to take her to get ice cream. Instead, you parked your Mercedes in the sub-basement, turned off the climate control, cracked the window half an inch, and went to a 4-hour spa treatment before this dinner."
